Langport

The historic town of Langport claims to be the smallest town in England. Langport and all the villages that surround it are linked by the network of country lanes and droves that make up the picturesque Somerset Levels. It is said to be the heart of the Somerset Levels. The town has a distinctive hanging chapel in the old town wall. Beyond the wall is the handsome parish church of adjacent Huish Episcopi with its magnificent Norman doorway.

The story of the town and river is told at the River Parrett Trail Visitor Centre. You can also hire a bike to explore nearby villages such as Muchelney, with its abbey, tearooms and the famous pottery of John Leach or enjoy the 50 mile River Parrett Trail by foot or bike.

This peaceful town is also ideal for discovering the flora and fauna of the Somerset Levels, one of England's most unchanged landscapes.
