Weymouth

A bustling port during medieval times, today Weymouth has become one of the most popular tourist resorts on the whole of the southern coast. Much of Weymouth was developed and expanded during the 18th and 19th centuries with tourism and visitors strongly in mind. The Esplanade dates back to Georgian times and borders much of the seafront.

Known for its sailing, the Weymouth and Portland Academy was chosen to host the main sailing events at London's 2012 Olympics. The beach is nationally renowned for its clean, golden sand and shallow waters. There is also an incredible Sand Sculptor, Punch and Judy, a Helter-Skelter, Swing-Boats and stalls selling everything from cockles to beach inflatables. What's more, Weymouth has the best sunshine record in England, even in winter.

Weymouth has so much to offer every visitor. Its fame as a seaside resort dates back over 200 years when King George III holidayed there!

FAQs about buying a static caravan in Weymouth, Dorset

Are there actually a lot of caravan parks in Weymouth, or is choice more limited than it looks?

There’s a good amount of choice, but it’s concentrated into a few key areas rather than spread evenly. Most buyers end up comparing parks around Bowleaze Cove, Preston and the Littlesea side.

For example, it’s common to view multiple parks in the same area on one trip rather than travelling across different parts of Weymouth.

Does it really matter which part of Weymouth your park is in?

Yes, more than people expect. Different areas give a very different ownership experience in terms of beach access, traffic and overall feel.

For example, Bowleaze Cove gives easier beach access, while parks further out towards Littlesea feel quieter but require more driving to reach the seafront.

Are site fees in Weymouth high compared to other Dorset locations?

They can be, especially on larger parks with facilities. Weymouth has a strong holiday park market, and fees often reflect entertainment, pools and maintenance costs.

For example, a park with full facilities near the coast will usually have noticeably higher fees than a smaller, quieter site slightly further out.

Is Weymouth a good place if I’m thinking about resale in the future?

Yes, but resale depends heavily on the park. Because there’s a lot of supply, buyers compare directly between parks, so weaker sites struggle more.

For example, caravans on well-known, well-maintained parks tend to move quicker than similar units on less established or more crowded parks.

What should I be checking properly before buying on a park in Weymouth?

You need to look at licence length, site fees, pitch position and how busy the park gets in peak season. These factors affect long-term value more than the caravan itself.

For example, a cheaper caravan with a short licence can end up costing more long term than a slightly more expensive one with a longer term remaining.
